We must be livin' right. We left the Templeton's cabin in the mountains on Sunday morning (God BLESS those people!) and stuck our toes in the Atlantic this afternoon. We had today off from school, and as Birch has to travel to Savannah about once a month, we hitched a ride with him. We drove out to Tybee Island after checking into our hotel and spent three glorious hours on the beach.

I haven't smelled salt air since Mouse was 9 months old, and for someone born two miles from the pelicans and sandpipers, that is just plain crazy. It was perfect weather for beach walking, shell collecting and sand playing (and in Holt's case, kickboxing in the ocean), but not so much for swimming. We were all in rolled up jeans, but by time we trekked back to the car, all the kids were soaked. Of course. How silly of me to imagine it any other way.

The video clip permanently etched in my mind will forever be Holt and Carolina chasing the seagulls, Carolina loudly calling to them in their own language. I believe Birch recorded it on his phone. As soon as we get home and Juliana shows me how, I will try to upload it.

Luckily we hadn't unloaded the car and all the luggage was still in the van. After trading out soakers for dry pants, we headed to a local spot a block from the beach for seafood. Oysters. Crab legs. Shrimp. Oh my.

It was more than I could ask of any Tuesday.
